Benedicte is a D'Angeline Prince of the Blood. He went to La Serenissima to marry into the Doge's family, cementing political alliances. His Serenissiman wife's name is Maria Stregazza de la Courcel; their daughters are Thérèse and Marie-Celeste Stregazza de la Courcel, both of whom marry back into the Stregazza family.

**SPOILERS FOR CHOSEN; I'M SERIOUS, DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU AREN'T PAST PAGE 325 IN THE PAPERBACK VERSION**

Benedicte's Serenissiman wife dies, and he remarries-- he weds Melisande Shahrizai de la Courcel after she escapes from Troyes-le-Mont. They have a son together, Imriel de la Courcel. Benedicte is slain in the attempt on Ysandre's life in La Serenissima; Melisande, who had claimed sanctuary at the Temple of Asherat previously, is sentenced to death if she sets foot outside the grounds.

Imriel sees Benedicte's ghost in Alba at the Feast of the Dead, and he thinks Benedicte is the saddest looking man he's ever seen (KJ 353-4).
